Position Purpose:
This is a position designed for early career scientists looking to broaden their experience in working with proteins from an analytical perspective by examining the protein in isolation using advanced characterization techniques, and by studying formulations of proteins in realistic matrices. A secondary goal of this position is to support a protein engineering program with a focus on -Omics technical skills. The Associate Scientist will use wet chemistry techniques typical of molecular biology and biochemistry such as library preparation, proteomic analysis, and some work with host organisms to support goals in the development of protein expression systems.
Essential Duties:
Independently perform complex lab activities and experiments, ensuring the execution of high-quality practical work and method development
Independent operation of laboratory equipment and instrumentation and following standard operating procedures, which may include analytical, biochemical, or molecular biology focal areas
This role will have responsibility to learn and support multiple technical disciplines, with the opportunity to participate in scientific work in chemistry and biochemistry laboratories
A strong candidate may have experience in one or more areas of technical analysis as a starting role, such as proteomic analysis, next generation sequencing, or protein purification
Participate in data interpretation and assists in incremental improvement of current procedures and protocols
Documentation of data, methods, and results. Maintain a lab notebook. Ability to deliver concise oral or written reports on finished projects or experiments
Maintain and set an example for a clean and well-organized laboratory workspace
Adheres to company guidelines on safety and operational excellence in a semi-works environment
Knowledge, Skills, and Experience
Bachelor’s degree in biology, chemistry, chemical engineering, food science or relevant field from an accredited college or university
One (1) plus years of experience in industrial or academic research or an appropriate equivalent
