Main Functions
We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented R&D Intern/Co-op student to join our team for a structured 5–6 month engagement focused on yeast and/or bacteria development. This is not a passive observer role — you will contribute meaningfully to live research projects, develop hands-on laboratory competencies, and present your findings to our scientific staff.
Working under the direct mentorship of an experienced scientist, you will build skills in experimental design, data analysis, and research documentation — practical experience that will distinguish you as a candidate in biotechnology, life sciences, or related fields.
By the end of your R&D Internship/Co-op, you will have:
- Hands-on experience conducting and analyzing experiments in an active industrial biotech R&D lab
- Demonstrated proficiency in research documentation, protocol development, and scientific reporting
- Exposure to collaborative research workflows alongside credentialed scientists
- A portfolio-worthy capstone: a formal research summary presented to our R&D team
WHAT YOU'LL DO
- Design and conduct experiments to advance ongoing yeast and bacteria research projects
- Collect, record, and analyze data to support project objectives and drive conclusions
- Collaborate with scientists and team members to develop and refine research protocols
- Maintain rigorous, accurate records of all research activities and results
- Prepare research summaries and present findings to the R&D team at project milestones
Technical skills
Required
- Completion of at least 2 years of post-secondary education in biology, chemistry, engineering, or a related science discipline
- Coursework that includes data collection, analysis, or laboratory methods
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office 365, particularly Excel or spreadsheet-based data tools
An asset
- Familiarity with standard research or laboratory methodologies
- Prior lab experience, research projects, or relevant coursework in microbiology or fermentation science
- Experience preparing written reports or delivering presentations in an academic or professional setting
Personal abilities
Required
- Organized and detail-oriented - you keep accurate records and follow through on commitments
- A collaborative team player who communicates openly and asks for help when needed
- Curious and driven - you bring a genuine desire to learn and contribute, not just to complete tasks
- Dependable and trustworthy - safety, accuracy, and integrity matter to you in a lab environment
