Join us in Environmental Operations, where we secure smooth, safe, and compliant production for both Novonesis and Novo Nordisk by managing one of Denmark’s largest and most advanced wastewater and biomass treatment facilities. You’ll become part of a highly engaged team of around 60 operators, technicians, maintenance specialists, engineers, and administrative colleagues who work closely together to solve daily operational challenges while driving long‑term optimization and innovation.
With a major facility expansion underway—executed while operations continue—this is an especially exciting moment to join our department and shape the future of our wastewater treatment capabilities.
The Role & Your Impact
As our new Wastewater Engineer, you will play a key role in ensuring stable, compliant, and optimized wastewater and biomass treatment at our Kalundborg site. You will work closely with operators, technicians, project teams, and technology specialists to secure reliable processes that enable uninterrupted production.
Your primary responsibilities include:
Holding process responsibility for designated parts of the wastewater facility
Troubleshooting and systematic problem‑solving when processes deviate from expectations
Driving process optimization and acting as a user representative on investment projects
Ensuring compliance with all wastewater and biomass discharge requirements
Engaging in dialogue with production sites about abnormal waste streams and defining handling strategies
Maintaining and developing control strategies for the facility
You will collaborate broadly across operations, maintenance, programming, project management, and technology development to support the continuous evolution of our facility.
What You’ll Need to Be Successful
A degree in Biochemical Engineering, Process Engineering, or a similar field
Minimum 3 years of relevant experience from waste‑water treatment or similar process‑heavy industries
Experience with process optimization, troubleshooting, and/or project leadership
Fluent in English; Danish proficiency is an advantage
In this role, it is essential that you possess a strong analytical mindset and the ability to work confidently with large and complex data sets. You must be adept at prioritizing tasks in a dynamic and fast‑paced environment while maintaining a high level of professionalism and accuracy. Effective communication skills are required, as the position involves close collaboration across multiple functions and stakeholder groups. Furthermore, a curious and open‑minded approach is important to continuously identify and pursue opportunities for operational improvement. Finally, you should demonstrate a high degree of self‑motivation and the capability to inspire and engage colleagues through your initiative and commitment.
Additional Skills & Interests We Value
It will be an advantage if you have gained experience from large‑scale treatment plants or from the broader field of industrial biotechnology, as this background will help you navigate the complexity of our operations. Candidates who are familiar with developing or working with control strategies, automation interfaces, or process modelling will find plenty of opportunities to apply and further develop these skills in our environment. Likewise, experience collaborating in cross‑functional project settings is highly valued, as it demonstrates your ability to contribute effectively in a setting where diverse professional perspectives come together to drive impactful solutions.
