Clever Carnivore is a mission-driven startup deploying cutting-edge biotechnology to bring low-cost, top-quality cultivated pork and beef to the consumer market. We are seeking a production associate to join our production bioprocess team working on continuing our cultivated meat and recombinant protein scale-up. This position will be highly cross-functional and will have the opportunity to contribute to many different scientific and operational areas.
Main Responsibilities
Perform unit operations supporting both the pilot production and recombinant protein teams
Assist the production team by making cell culture media, running the pilot bioreactors, sampling, and harvesting cultivated meat
Assist the recombinant protein production team by performing upstream and downstream unit operations as needed to support growth factor needs
Contribute to the general functioning of the lab, ensuring that all operations run smoothly
Work with the cell biology team to scale-up and tech transfer the manufacturing process from the benchtop to pilot production for all products
Follow good lab practices including safety, material handling, waste handling, and cleanliness
Maintain an appropriate level of documentation and communication through timely and thorough drafting and execution of protocols and reports
May be required to complete any other duties/responsibilities assigned by management
Education
BS/MS in biological engineering, chemical engineering, biomedical engineering, biotechnology, or related life science field with laboratory experience or food manufacturing/biopharma production experience
Experience and Qualifications
0 - 5 years’ related experience in biologics R&D, process development, or manufacturing
Thrives in a fast-paced environment where the expectation is that you are able to contribute where needed and operate with a high degree of autonomy
Experience working with reusable mammalian cell culture systems
Experience working with protein purification equipment
Working knowledge of basic chemical and biological safety procedures
Knowledge and experience utilizing current Good Manufacturing Practices
Willing to work evenings and weekends as needed to meet operations requirements
Experience working in food or biotech manufacturing is a plus
Technical Skills
Proficient in the Microsoft Office Suite of products
Experience in various data analysis and visualization software (ex. ImageJ, Prism)
Aseptic technique experience or training
Bacterial and/or mammalian cell culture, gel electrophoresis, and general laboratory skills
Reporting Structure
This position reports to the Director of Production Bioprocess in the R&D department. The applicant must be able to work full-time, on site at our Chicago, IL headquarters. The candidate must be authorized to work in the United States and not require sponsorship now, or in the future.
Compensation
$60,000 – $85,000, based on experience; 30 days PTO (to be used for vacation, sick days, personal days, holidays, etc.); medical and dental insurance
