UPSTREAM TECHNICIAN
Believer is seeking to hire multiple candidates to join our Upstream Operations team including technicians interested in upstream cell culture. This is a great opportunity to build upon your experience in upstream processes and get exposure to a wide range of operations. As the factory scales up, you will specialize in one or more functions based on your skills, capabilities, and interests.
The Upstream Technicians will support a broad range of upstream processing activities, including operating and maintaining bioreactors and other upstream processing equipment to ensure the efficient and safe production of cultivated meat. These roles involve monitoring and controlling bioprocess parameters, performing routine maintenance, and troubleshooting equipment issues. The ideal candidate will have experience in bioprocessing, a strong attention to detail, and a commitment to maintaining high standards of quality and safety.
Schedule: The Technician will work 10-hour shifts Monday to Thursday until production start-up. The regular schedule will then be a 2-3-3 rotation including weekday and weekend work on the dayshift.

YOUR DAY-TO-DAY
Day-to-day responsibilities will include a mix of the following duties as you work within the lab and manufacturing floor settings.
Inoculation
Perform cell culture operations, including thawing, expansion, and passaging of cell lines in a sterile lab environment.
Execute and optimize upstream processes, ensuring high-quality cell growth and viability.
Bioreactor Operation
Assist with commissioning and ongoing monitoring of bioreactors
Adjust process parameters such as temperature, pH, dissolved oxygen, and agitation to optimize cell growth and product yield.
Perform regular sampling and analysis of bioreactor contents to ensure process control and product quality.
Equipment Maintenance, Troubleshooting, and Sanitation
Perform routine maintenance and calibration of bioreactors and associated equipment.
Troubleshoot and resolve any technical issues related to upstream processes.
Maintain detailed records of equipment performance, maintenance, and repairs.
Perform routine cleaning and sanitation of equipment and work areas to maintain a clean and safe production environment.
Process Monitoring and Documentation
Monitor critical process parameters and document all observations and adjustments.
Maintain accurate and timely records of all production activities, including batch records, logbooks, and electronic data systems.
Quality Control and Compliance
Adhere to all company policies, standard operating procedures (SOPs), and regulatory requirements.
Participate in quality assurance activities and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives.
Ensure a clean and safe working environment in compliance with GMP (Good Manufacturing Practices) and other relevant regulations.
Collaboration and Communication
Work closely with downstream processing, quality control, and R&D teams to ensure seamless production flow and product quality.
Communicate effectively with team members and supervisors to report any issues or deviations from standard processes.
QUALIFICATIONS
The ideal candidate will meet the following requirements or possess similar attributes that demonstrate the ability to fulfill all aspects of the job description.
Education: Bachelor’s degree (required) in Engineering, Bioprocessing, Chemistry, Biology or similar.
Experience: Ideally, 0-2+ years of experience in bioprocessing or a similar role/educational experience in biotech or pharmaceutical environments.
Technical Skills: Proficiency in maintaining cell culture and with aseptic techniques and bioprocess control systems (required).
Knowledge: Understanding of cell culture principles, bioprocess optimization, and GMP regulations.
Soft Skills: Strong attention to detail, problem-solving skills, and the ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Physical Requirements: Ability to lift and move equipment and materials up to 50 pounds. Ability to work in a sterile environment and perform repetitive tasks.
Authorized to work in the US and commute regularly to the work site.
Ability to pass pre-employment background check, drug screening, and physical (as applicable).
