We are now looking for a SENIOR PROCESS DEVELOPMENT ENGINEER / CHEMIST to join our Process R&D team based at our Kantvik R&D site in Kirkkonummi, Southern Finland.
We are part of IFF’s global Health & Biosciences Process R&D organization and deliver capacity release and continuous improvement projects for our globally located manufacturing facilities. We also provide process development and technology support for exciting new products in our portfolio. MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES IN THE ROLE
As a Process Development Engineer your main responsibilities will be:
- Planning, executing, managing, and reporting of process development projects
- Participating in technology transfer, start-up, and plant optimization in Finland and abroad
- Acting as a proactive team member in global development projects both in pilot and plant scale.
- Scheduling and organizing day-to-day pilot and laboratory work for development projects
- Production of product samples for customers in pilot scale
- Supervising pilot plant and laboratory personnel in project setting
- Continuous improvement in safety culture and day-to-day operations
JOB REQUIREMENTS
To be qualified for the role, you must have:
- M.Sc. or Ph.D. in Organic Chemistry or in Chemical Engineering
- Few years relevant work experience in bioprocess, chemical and/or pulp & paper industry
- Extensive expertise in organic and polymer chemistry, including synthesis, characterization, and functional modification of polymers and particulate materials, AS WELL AS proficiency in mentoring also others in organic chemistry methodologies
- Previous work experience with pressurized two-phase and three-phase reactions
- Excellent attitude towards Environment, Health, and Safety (EHS)
- Team player mentality and high respect for people
- Problem-solving skills, analytical mindset, and continuous learning attitude
- Ability and willingness to work hands-on in pilot plant and plant environment
- Effective oral and written communication and presentation skills in English
- Good IT skills (e.g., Excel, Word, PowerPoint, SharePoint, SAP)
- Willingness for occasional travel, mainly within Europe
Proficiency in Finnish is considered as a significant advantage for succeeding in the role, as local communication takes place mainly in Finnish.
Desirable skills and background:
- Practical experience in polymer chemistry, in synthesis, analysis and modification of polymers and particles
- Industrial experience in cellulose modification technologies and/or in polymerization
