Your mission
In this role, you'll design, build, and optimize mechatronic systems that integrate mechanical assemblies, electrical controls, and sensor technology into seamless production solutions. You'll work at the intersection of our mechanical and automation engineering teams—turning concepts into reliable, high-performing equipment for our Berlin-based production facilities.
This is more than a job—it's your opportunity to turn ideas into action and help tackle one of the planet's most pressing challenges. Let's build a sustainable future together.
Key responsibilities
Mechatronic system design & integration: Maintain and optimize integrated mechatronic systems combining mechanical components, electrical drives, sensors, and control logic for food processing applications. Ensure seamless interaction between mechanical assemblies and automation systems, and lead the integration of new equipment into existing production lines.
Control system development: Program and configure PLC-based control systems, improve HMI interfaces, and implement sensor-driven process control strategies. Optimize control logic for production efficiency, product quality, and equipment reliability.
Mechanical design & prototyping: Create mechanical designs for custom production equipment. Build and test prototypes, validate design performance, and iterate based on production feedback and food safety requirements.
Commissioning & troubleshooting: Support the commissioning of new and modified production equipment. Diagnose and resolve complex issues spanning mechanical, electrical, and software domains. Minimize production downtime through systematic root cause analysis and rapid problem resolution.
Continuous improvement & optimization: Identify opportunities to improve equipment performance, reliability, and energy efficiency. Implement sensor-based monitoring solutions and contribute to the development of predictive maintenance strategies.
Technical documentation: Develop and maintain comprehensive technical documentation including electrical schematics, mechanical drawings, wiring diagrams, and system specifications. Ensure documentation meets European and German regulatory compliance standards.
Your profile
If you combine mechanical and electrical engineering skills with a passion for building integrated production systems, this is your chance to design and optimize the mechatronic solutions that power our manufacturing. Join us now as we scale operations in a fast-growing, purpose-driven startup.
Requirements
Educational Background: A qualification in Mechatronics, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a completed apprenticeship with a further "Techniker" qualification in a related field.
Professional Experience: 3-5 years of professional experience in mechatronic or interdisciplinary engineering roles in industrial or manufacturing environments. Experience in food production, FMCG, or other hygiene-critical industries is a strong plus.
Interdisciplinary technical skills: Demonstrated ability to work across mechanical design (CAD), electrical engineering (schematics, wiring), and control systems (PLC programming). Proven experience with Structured Text (ST) and Ladder Logic (LD) and direct experience with Beckhoff (TwinCAT 3) is highly preferred.
Sensor & instrumentation knowledge: Experience selecting, integrating, and calibrating industrial sensors and actuators. Familiarity with common industrial communication protocols (e.g., EtherCAT, Profinet, IO-Link).
Standards & compliance: Possession of, or eligibility for, Elektrofachkraft (EFK) status according to DIN VDE 1000-10 and DGUV V3 is highly preferred. Understanding of European and German electrical regulations (VDE, DIN, IEC standards) and machinery safety requirements (Machinery Directive, CE marking).
Operational agility: A proactive, solutions-oriented mindset with the ability to adapt quickly in a fast-paced, dynamic startup environment.
Language Proficiency: Strong communication skills in both English and German.
