ENGINEERING MANAGER FACTORY 02
We are scaling Solein production technology to industrial scale in our next factory, Factory 02.
It will be built in Lappeenranta, Finland. Factory 02 expands Solein’s production capacity from Factory 01’s 160 tons to 6,400 tons annually. The construction of the Solar Foods’ first industrial-scale production facility is planned to be carried out in phases: The design capacity of the first phase is 3.2 kilotons per year, and it’s expected to be operational at the end of 2028. The following year, the production plant is planned to be expanded in a second phase to a total design capacity of 6.4 annual kilotons. The investment decision for Factory 02 is targeted to be made during 2026.
In this role, you will play a key part in turning Factory 02 from plans into reality. You will lead and coordinate engineering work both prior FID and during the project execution across disciplines and strategic partners, helping ensure that design decisions, technical scope, and deliverables come together smoothly and support efficient project execution. Your main responsibilities include:
· Technical and design oversight
· Leading the engineering work for Factory 02 across disciplines and external partners
· Acting as a technical specialist for design decisions and coordination, ensuring alignment between different interfaces and stakeholders
· Defining and managing the technical scope and project specifications
· Overseeing concept, basic, and detailed design to support high-quality execution
· Reviewing and approving engineering deliverables and drawings
· Coordinating the “gives and gets” between key project parties, such as OEMs, engineering partners, vendors, and contractors, to minimise clashes and design changes
· Supporting the development of engineering standards that can serve not only Factory 02, but also Solar Foods’ future factory network
· Helping ensure engineering delivery on time and with the quality needed all the way to as-built documentation
You’ll succeed in the is role if you have
· A Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in engineering, factory design, or another relevant field.
· At least 10 years of relevant experience in an owner’s project engineering environment, ideally from factory projects in process and/or discrete manufacturing industries.
· Proven track record to successfully lead and coordinate sizeable engineering development projects.
· Strong engineering expertise in at least one major engineering discipline, preferably CSA, mechanical, or electrical engineering.
· Experience in coordinating engineering deliverables and interfaces between OEMs, EPCM partners, contractors, and other key project parties.
· Experience of BIM modelling, including experience in setting governance, carrying out design reviews, and supporting clash resolution between involved parties.
· Experience with process safety reviews, such as HAZOP and HAZID.
· Familiarity with Finnish engineering standards and regulatory requirements is considered an advantage.
· Excellent leadership and can-do attitude
· The ability to stay calm, exercise sound judgement under pressure, and support the wider project organisation.
· A mindset that supports Solar Foods’ mission and values.
· Strong written and verbal communication skills in English; Finnish language skills are considered an advantage.
· You are a team player and you have the ability to partner effectively with Solar Foodists across functions and organisational levels.
This is a full-time, permanent role based at our headquarters in Vehkala, Vantaa. The role involves regular travel to Lappeenranta as the Factory 02 project progresses and potentially in the future to our construction sites of new factories.
