Analytical Scientist, LC-MS Method Development
About Us
We’re a team of highly skilled 40+ scientists on a mission to create the world’s best guilt-free, sustainable meat. The meat we make is cultivated meat just like real meat, only made differently.
We’re looking for a talented analytical scientist to join an innovative, multidisciplinary team, building the analytical methods to support biologics development, and ultimately, more cost-effective immunotherapeutics.
About the Role
You’ll develop and run the analytical assays that tell us how well our cell lines and expression systems perform. Working across a range of techniques and throughputs, you’ll design robust, reproducible methods, deliver them on time, and help train the wider team to use them. This is a hands-on role at the centre of a growing, cross-disciplinary team, where your work directly shapes the direction of our projects.
What you’ll do
Design, plan and develop analytical assays using a variety of techniques and throughputs, making sure deliverables are met within timelines
Execute analytical assays to a high standard, in a reliable and reproducible way
Author SOPs, training documents and COSHH forms as key deliverables
Train team members to a high level of competence to ensure data integrity
Document research findings clearly in a lab book
Communicate regularly in group meetings, and prepare and deliver presentations to the project team and internal stakeholders
Share in routine laboratory maintenance with your colleagues, including equipment upkeep, cleaning rotas and consumables stock management
Support the preparation of laboratory risk assessments and maintain health and safety protocols
Maintain the confidentiality of the project and protocols
Keep up to date with current technologies and scientific literature to identify opportunities for improvement and cost reduction
What We’re Looking For
Qualifications
MSc or PhD in Biochemistry, Molecular Biology or a related field, with either an MSc and 4+ years of industry experience, or a PhD and 1+ year of industry experience
Essential experience
Analytical method development: developing and executing LC-MS based analytical methods for small molecule quantification and/or protein characterisation, e.g. subunit analysis or released N-linked glycan analysis
High-throughput analysis: developing high-throughput analyses within automated target discovery pipelines
Experimental design: skilled in experimental design and troubleshooting, and in planning experiments to a given timeframe
Documentation: writing SOPs, training documents and risk assessments
Training: training other team members to a high level of competency
Ways of working: able to work independently and as part of a team, with good numeracy, computer and communication skills
Nice to Have
DOE: applying Design of Experiments (DOE) to experiment design
Automation: experience with automation and high-throughput technologies applied to mammalian cell line generation, e.g. Beacon, 96 deep well plate model systems and Ambr15
Cell culture: working with bioprocess-relevant cell lines such as CHO or HEK293, including passaging, banking, transfection, nucleofection and genotyping
Cell line development: familiarity with mammalian cell line development, including generation of GM/GE cell lines, single cell cloning and CRISPR / ORF library screens
Data: familiarity with large datasets, including transcriptomic and proteomic data
You’ll Thrive Here If You Are
Innovative, with advanced problem-solving skills
Enthusiastic, proactive and driven to deliver
Reliable and responsible, able to multitask with good time management and organisation
An excellent written and spoken communicator
Happy in a growing, multidisciplinary team
