About The Role
This individual will ensure Food Bank compliance to Feeding America, USDA and industry Food Safety standards through the development, management, and continuous improvement of the ACFB Food Safety Management systems and programs. This role will maintain functional expertise in Food Safety and HACCP standards and, in collaboration with the Director, Procurement & QA, will be accountable for the effectiveness of the site Food Safety program and food recall management. They will collaborate with internal and external resources, to ensure effective programs management and execution, and the deployment of relevant Food Safety and QA knowledge.
What You’ll Do
Food Safety Management:
Establish, document, and enforce food safety and food defense standards and practices to ensure compliance with regulations (FDA, USDA, HACCP).
Plan and execute internal food safety audits across facilities to verify compliance with HACCP, SQF, AIB or similar standards; manage corrective actions for any non-compliant findings.
Develop and manage product traceability systems to efficiently track inventory; lead recall processes and communication if quality or safety issues arise.
Keep up with the latest regulatory changes and industry best practices, updating policies and procedures to ensure ongoing compliance.
Oversee sanitation protocols for facilities, including cleaning schedules and procedures, to maintain a hygienic environment.
Quality Control
Monitor and evaluate product quality from receipt through distribution, ensuring that all items meet safety and quality specifications.
Conduct or oversee testing, such as temperature checks, spoilage inspections, and contamination assessments, to prevent compromised products from reaching distribution.
Track, analyze, and report key quality assurance metrics to identify trends and improvements, using insights to drive continuous enhancement in food safety practices.
Collaborate with the Operations Director to teach, monitor and maintain AIB standards throughout the organiation.
Training And Development For Internal And External Stakeholders
Design and conduct training for staff on food handling, sanitation practices, allergen management, and quality control to promote a safe work environment.
Ensure all partners comply with FA guidelines, including maintaining a certified individual trained in ServSafe Food Handler for Food Banking, with retraining support within 60 days for turnover.
Provide additional training on specialized safety practices, such as repacking and temperature control, along with focused support for high-capacity or higher-risk partners.
Create and implement SOPs and best practices for key food safety operations like product transport, unloading, and volunteer training.
Act as an internal food safety resource, providing guidance on emerging issues and updating protocols for temperature-sensitive mobile distributions.
Coordinate recall notices and develop a communication strategy for rapid, clear outreach to affected partners.

What You’ll Need: Skills and Experience your resume should demonstrate:
Must demonstrate a track record of maintaining and effectively conveying expert knowledge in regulatory subject matter
Must have proven experience with, and understanding of Food Safety / HACCP standards, with a record of building and maintaining a strong and effective food safety management culture.
Must be able to demonstrate experience successfully managing relationships with internal and external stakeholders to deliver objectives.
Must be proficient in Microsoft Office products (Excel, Word, and PowerPoint)
Quality Systems or Food Safety (ServSafe) certification preferred.
