The Food Safety & Quality Manager leads a team of quality and sanitation supervisors and technicians and is responsible for managing food safety, food quality, sanitation, and food defense activities within a business unit or plant. This position verifies that day-to-day procedures and activities are aligned with Roskam Baking Company’s Quality Assurance Manual, State and Federal regulations, and customer expectations. Areas of focus will include allergen control, ingredient control (traceability/hold), thermal control, GMP compliance, training, documentation, sensory, weight control/SPC, internal audit, analytical/laboratory testing, sanitation procedures, master sanitation schedule, and corrective/preventative action.
The Food Safety & Quality Manager will be required to provide direction and leadership in the following areas:
Key Essential Functions/Duties
Provide cross functional leadership for GFSI (SQF) accreditation (SQF Practitioner), conduct risk assessments, develop and implement preventive controls and verify/validate food safety and quality programs effectiveness.
Lead and manage a quality team and ensure resources are actively engaged
Supervise and develop inspectors, technicians and other staff and provide guidance and feedback
Develop specific action plans, leverage internal resources, improve processes and deliver results
Drive attainment of Key Process Indicators for food safety and quality
Implement a corrective and preventative action program
Manage product identification and traceability programs
Oversee non-conforming product/equipment procedures
Deliver and manage training material
Professionally represent policies and procedures to external customers and governmental agencies.
Deliver continuous improvement (reduce/prevent internal failures, deliver right first time)
Manage food safety, food quality, and food defense plans
Provide risk assessment and develop mitigation strategies
Identify/develop critical controls to reduce risk
Verify effectiveness of critical controls and procedures
Prepare reports on food quality status to relay to owners and upper-level management
Keep accurate documentation and perform statistical analysis
Identify critical food safety and quality issues and escalated appropriately to upper-level management
Education/Experience/Skills/Qualifications
Required:
HACCP and/or Preventive Controls Qualified Individual training or relevant experience
Demonstrated people and team leadership skills (5+ years of supervisory experience)
Strong working knowledge of quality an sanitation systems (5+ years of food safety/quality system management)
Demonstrated experience with GFSI quality system implementation and management
Experience with FDA and GMP’s
Strong interpersonal skills to include team building and oral communication
Strong customer facing and presentation skills
Strong project management and planning skills
Demonstrated data analysis and statistical process control skills
Demonstrated accomplishment in the area of continuous improvement
Strong documentation skills
Coaching and talent development experience
Proficient in MS Office and strong computer literacy skills
Preferred
BS degree in Biology, Chemistry, Engineering, Food Science or a related scientific field
Demonstrated SQF implementation skills
Food defense training or relevant experience
Strong regulatory awareness in the food sector
Knowledge in Sanitation Programs
Experience with Environmental Monitoring Programs
Salary Range: $95,000 - $125,000
