The Role
Are you passionate about scientific innovation and eager to make a real impact in the field of biomaterials? As a Scientist at Corbion, you will have a hands-on role in developing and optimizing processes and products for our biomaterials business. You’ll be a technical expert, collaborating across departments, supporting both innovation and operational needs, and growing your expertise in a dynamic, multidisciplinary environment. This is a lab-based position with a strong focus on research and manufacturing-related projects, experimental design, data analysis, and cross-functional teamwork.
Key Responsibilities
Lead and contribute to innovation projects as a technical or project lead, ensuring effective planning, execution, and delivery of results.
Develop, characterize, and validate new or modified process technologies.
Investigate process phenomena, reaction mechanisms, material properties, and product–process interactions , supporting both internal and external stakeholders.
Design and conduct laboratory, pilot, or plant-scale experiments to understand and improve product/ process performance.
Troubleshoot process upsets using structured scientific methods and data analysis.
Analyze experimental data rigorously, with a strong emphasis on both univariate and multivariate data analysis and translate findings into actionable insights.
Consolidate and share knowledge from literature and internal sources, providing clear feedback and recommendations.
Support technology transfer from laboratory to pilot to full-scale manufacturing with technical expertise on customer and process-related projects.
Prepare scientific reports, lab and pilot procedures, as well as relevant product and process documentation.
Supervise, mentor, and onboard technicians, fostering a collaborative and supportive team environment.
Ensure safety, quality, regulatory and sustainability, ensuring compliance.
Drive standardization, best-practice sharing, and continuous improvement culture across teams.
You Bring
MSc or PhD in a relevant field (e.g., Chemical Engineering, Chemistry) with at least 3 years of professional experience
Strong skills in experimental design, data generation, and data analysis (including multivariate/statistical analysis).
Experience with process development, synthesis, or purification is a plus.
Project management skills, with focus on defining scope, schedule, cost, and risks.
Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
Excellent communication skills in English (Dutch is not required).
Proactive, collaborative, and eager to engage with both technical and operational colleagues.
A safety-first mindset and commitment to, quality, regulatory compliance and sustainability.
Willingness to work full-time on site.
Experience in a GMP or highly regulated environment is an advantage.
