BioColor is an innovative spin-out from the Technical University of Denmark, pioneering the future of sustainable, natural food colors through precision fermentation. We are seeking an experienced visionary CTO to lead our bioprocess development efforts and drive our technology from pilot stage to full-scale manufacturing. This is a unique opportunity for a seasoned biotech process engineer and leader to take ownership of BioColor’s technological strategy and execution.
Key Responsibilities
Leadership and Team Development
- Lead and develop the process development team, fostering a strong, collaborative environment.
- Provide scientific and technical leadership to ensure successful achievement of strategic milestones.
Process Development and Upscaling
- Oversee fermentation (upstream) and purification (downstream) process development.
- Drive process upscaling and manage technology transfer (tech transfer) to contract manufacturing partners.
Technical and Commercial Management
- Own and continuously refine the company’s process and techno-economic model to ensure commercial viability.
- Manage and develop partnerships with contract manufacturers and strategic customers.
- Act as the technical representative in dialogues with partners, customers, and investors.
Qualifications and Experience
- PhD in chemical engineering, biotechnology, biochemistry, or a related field.
- Minimum 5 years of process development experience covering both fermentation and downstream processing.
- Documented leadership experience managing a technical team and driving complex projects.
- Experience with contract manufacturing (CDMOs) is a significant advantage.
- Background from both start-ups and larger organizations is a plus.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with intercultural competence.
- Creative problem-solving mindset and a practical, hands-on approach.
- Proven ability to execute multiple projects simultaneously in a fast-paced environment.
