Plastic has had 90 years of process optimization. Our seaweed-based material has had three and it’s already on retail shelves in 300 stores. Want to close that gap? We’re looking for a process engineer who runs pilot lines hands-on, solves problems no one has solved before, and takes our process to industrial partners across Europe.
noriware is an innovative materials science company specializing in the development and production of plastic-free, seaweed-based packaging for fruit and vegetables that extends shelf life and reduces food waste. By integrating biochemistry with existing machinery and infrastructure in the plastics industry, we set new standards for sustainable, mechanically functional packaging films.
Your role
As a production / process engineer at noriware, you will own our in-house cast film pilot production and drive the industrialization of our seaweed-based films. You will operate and continuously improve our pilot extrusion line, produce film for customer pilots and trials, and systematically develop the process window of a completely new class of materials.
Beyond our own line, you will act as technical lead towards external film manufacturers: screening, qualifying, and supporting contract extrusion partners to bring our process to industrial scale. Your work directly connects R&D, production, and scale-up.
Your tasks
- Operate our film pilot extrusion line and produce films for pilot series, customer samples, and trials
- Develop, optimize, and document processing parameters (temperature profiles, screw and die configuration, take-off and winding settings) for our formulations
- Diagnose and resolve processing issues (surface defects, thickness variation, melt instabilities) using structured root-cause analysis
- Screen, evaluate, and qualify external film manufacturing partners: conduct technical audits, define trial protocols, and lead trial runs on partner lines
- Transfer processes to external partners and ensure reproducible quality at scale
- Develop and maintain standard operating procedures (SOPs), trial reports, and process documentation
- Collaborate closely with R&D on formulation-process interactions and with quality on specifications and release criteria
- Support equipment selection, commissioning, and investment planning for production scale-up
- Contribute to food contact compliance and quality documentation for production processes
- Plan and manage raw material and production logistics for pilot series and beyond
Requirements
- Degree in polymer engineering, process engineering, plastics technology, or comparable qualification
- Several years of hands-on experience in film extrusion (cast or blown film), ideally including production, pilot or technical center environments
- Strong practical understanding of extrusion process parameters and their influence on film properties
- Structured, independent way of working: you can plan, run, and document a trial campaign on your own
- Willingness to travel to external manufacturing partners in Europe (approx. 10–30%)
- Confident communication in English; German is a strong plus
- Comfortable working hands-on in a fast-paced, innovative startup environment
Beneficial
- Experience with biopolymer or bio-based material systems
- Experience qualifying or working with contract manufacturers / toll extruders
- Knowledge of food contact regulations and quality systems (EU 10/2011, GMP, HACCP)
- Experience with compounding processes
Our team
Our team at noriware consists of highly qualified and dedicated experts from various disciplines. Together, we combine extensive experience in materials science, polymer engineering, biochemistry, analytical chemistry and product management to achieve our visionary goals and shape the future of plastic-free materials.
