Financial Accountant *Dublin Based*
-> FIXED TERM CONTRACT OF 12 MONTHS <-
What do we need?
Since our launch in 2015, we’ve stood apart in the freezer aisle—not just for our eye-catching packaging, bold brand identity, and compelling story, but because we’ve always put taste and ingredient quality first. From day one, our focus has been on creating truly special products that people love.
Now we’ve brought those products to a global stage, and we’ve had to scale up all our systems and practices to help things run efficiently and effectively. Our Finance team is a well-oiled machine with some great talent, and we’re looking the right person to help us level up from great to best-in-class!
So, we're looking for an experienced and insightful individual to join us—someone who can help take this already strong function to a best-in-class level. If you’re excited about working in a fast-moving, creative environment where your contributions make a real impact, we’d love to hear from you.
Who are we?
Strong Roots has achieved impressive success to date: we’re in pretty much all the major Ireland & UK retailers, where we’re much-loved by our loyal consumers, and have gained sizeable listings across the USA. Further afield, we’re in freezer aisles throughout France, Australia and numerous other countries, and have now entered the world of food service in Ireland and the UK! 💪
As a very proud member of the B Corp community, we’re here to deliver on our “Good Made Easy” promise by selling delicious, frozen plant-based food that’s designed for busy lives, and we’re on track to becoming a globally renowned brand. In April 2024, we were acquired in full by McCain Foods, in order to massively accelerate and scale this ambition. We’ll continue to operate as an independent business unit but are now supported by one of the world’s biggest and most impressive food brands. Nice!
We’re a multi-award-winning FMCG company who intends to stay that way. We’re at global scale-up stage, so you’ll play a crucial part in helping us to gain ground on a global level and increasing our sales by 10x in the next 5 years.
The Gang comprises 60 people, from 11 nationalities, across 3 international locations (Dublin HQ, London, New York), with more than half of our employees identifying as female (including at management and senior leadership level). We value and welcome diversity in all its forms (whether visible or invisible), so we’re most definitely an equal opportunities employer. Let us know if we can do anything to facilitate your application, selection, or employment experience. That B Corp status we mentioned? That proves that we look after our people and always have an eye on how to help you thrive and feel like you truly belong here.
What will you be doing?
This full-time, 12 month contract, based out of our Dublin office and requires attendance at the office 2 days per week.
Here’s a flavour of what you’ll be doing:
Taking inhouse the preparation of our Financial Statements, previously prepared by our auditors, for 6 companies - primarily setting up the process and co-ordination the FS prep with the other two accountants
Managing the accounting for two of our legal entities - the UK and Our IP company, during a period of Parental leave and holidays, during the busy Audit season – July to September.
Assisting with the improvement of several controls to bring us into line with McCain corporate standard
Improvements in the Reporting and controlling processes
Reporting to our Financial Controller, you’ll make a positive impact managing the UK and Brand holding/IP company
Leading the month-end process and the production of monthly management accounts.
Acting as a finance business partner to the non-financial teams.
Supporting accurate and timely cash-flow forecasting.
Reconciling bank statements.
Handling accruals, pre-payments, and journal postings.
Reconciling P&L and balance sheets.
Analysing trends, assisting with budget / variance analysis.
How will you stand out from the crowd?
That’s easy. It’s because you:
Are recently qualified or on your way to qualifying as an accountant and have 2 years’+ experience working full-time in a similar, dedicated role, and at a similar level. Great if you have FMCG experience, and even better if you’ve worked in an insurgent or scale-up business.
Are passionate about the impact that a good finance team can have in a fast-growing commercial, multi-market business.
Know where you want to get and are taking ownership of getting there. You are high-confidence but low-ego.
Are highly efficient, (VERY) detail-orientated and organised. In fact, you’re a time management wizard, expertly balancing multiple demands, projects, tasks and stakeholders.
Can effectively develop relationships with others across the business, including those outside of your department / reporting line, and across countries and time-zones.
Have excellent analytical and research skills, with the ability to mine complex data to uncover brilliant and actionable insights.
Have bags of energy and positivity and have a positive impact on the rest of your team.
Communicate expertly, using advanced-level English, regardless of the media or the target audience. You know that the best finance professionals are more than just “numbers people”.
Remain calm and effective in the face of chaos, direction changes, and unexpected curveballs.
Are the envy of your Excel-using peer group… it’s one of your super-powers!
We take our culture VERY seriously, and you’ll contribute positively to it because it’s clear to everyone you’ve worked with that you’re an exemplar of our Winning Behaviours:
We’re GOOD PEOPLE: Sound people being solid team-mates.
Doing GOOD WORK: Winning performance driving lasting growth.
FOR GOOD: Conscious behaviour ensuring positive impact.
What are we offering?
We get it: you’ve been working hard to make yourself a valuable asset, so we’re ready to treat you as such. You’ll receive a competitive salary package (which includes both annual and long-term incentive plans), but you’ll also enjoy a range of benefits that includes 23 days’ annual leave, matched pension contribution, £€1,000 Wellness Wonga, £€1,000 contribution to private health insurance, 12 weeks full maternity pay, 2 weeks paid paternity leave, matched charity donations, and more (“Like what?”, you ask? How about a paid half-day every Friday in June, July, and August!?). On top of all that, you’ll be part of something big that’s going to get a lot bigger, FAST.
