Position Summary
The research is focused on the synthesis of biomaterials and their testing in vitro in microbial and eukaryotic cells and in vivo in mouse models.
The research assistant position involves cell culture and CL2 lab maintenance, including maintaining inventory and ensuring proper cell/microbe storage.
Duties
Cell Culture and Maintenance: Perform routine culture, maintenance, and differentiation of various cell lines, including stem cells, under aseptic conditions.
Cell Archiving and Storage: Manage short- and long-term storage of cell lines, ensuring accurate labeling, documentation, and organization in liquid nitrogen and other appropriate storage systems.
Microbial Culture and Preservation: Culture, maintain, and store microbial strains following established protocols for experimental use.
CL2 Laboratory Operations: Maintain Containment Level 2 (CL2) lab standards, including regular checks and maintenance of incubators, biosafety cabinets (BSCs), and liquid nitrogen storage systems.
Biological Inventory Management: Maintain and update an organized inventory system for all microbial strains and cell lines, ensuring availability and proper documentation.
Experimental Support: Conduct preliminary experiments to assess cell viability and support ongoing research activities with accurate and timely data collection.
Training students on aseptic cell culture techniques

Qualifications
Grade 12 education with some post-secondary education in Science (preferably with expertise in cell culture, laboratory skills)
WHIMS and biosafety training, work alone training, waste disposal training
