Role Description
We are seeking a Food Production Technologist for our small-scale butter production. This is an on-site role located in Sunnyvale, CA. You will have the chance to play a pivotal role in expanding our production and bringing a new and innovative product to the market.
Responsibilities
Production and packaging of our novel butter and fat products
Operation of a scraped-surface heat exchanger and other pilot foods manufacturing equipment including assembly, disassembly, and sanitation of equipment
Maintain detailed documentation such as batch records and production notes
Organize and maintain inventory of all raw materials, finished goods, and packaging including record keeping, ordering, and restocking
Fulfill outbound orders by packaging and shipping finished product
Assume onsite food safety responsibilities including adhering to all GMPs and food safety policies, collaborating with other onsite parties, and facilitating audits and inspections
Assist with local logistics, including picking up supplies and transporting samples between the Sunnyvale kitchen and San Jose HQ
Collaborate with the product development team to execute experiments evaluating new formulations, equipment, and processing methods
Conduct product evaluations such as sensory testing, microbial testing, and package and label inspections
Qualifications/Skills
BS in food science or a related field and 1 year of relevant work experience in food product development or manufacturing supervision
Mechanically inclined: comfortable troubleshooting basic equipment issues and using hand tools; experience using or repairing pumps, production manufacturing equipment, or similar
Proactive and clear communication in verbal and written forms
Willingness to work alone and independently as well as part of a team
Thorough and accurate use of documentation that allow you write and follow SOPs and maintain batch records and inventory
Proficient with MS Word/Excel/Teams
Working Conditions
Regularly lift, carry, and move items/ingredients weighing up to 40 pounds without assistance
Ability to perform continuous, repetitive hand and wrist motions during butter wrapping and fat packaging
Must be able to stand at stainless steel worktables or machinery for extended periods of time while working
Frequent bending, stooping, and reaching are required to access raw materials, operate machine controls, and perform sanitation duties
Comfortable working in a shared commercial kitchen environment with varying temperatures
Must adhere to strict hygiene protocols, including wearing hairnets, gloves, and non-slip footwear at all times
Logistics
This is a part-time W-2 position
24 hours per week, 8 hours/day, Monday - Wednesday or Tuesday - Thursday, 8 am – 5 pm with 1 hr for lunch and breaks
This is a hands-on, on-site position. Your primary work location is a third-party commercial kitchen in Sunnyvale, CA with occasional visits to Savor HQ in south San Jose.
You will need reliable transportation and flexibility to travel to either site. Mileage reimbursement is provided for travel between sites and for work-related errands.
