PBFI champions and supports the plant-based food industry as a powerful lever for diversifying cropping systems, expanding agricultural opportunity, and advancing environmental and human health. Through research, policy, and cross-sector collaboration, we are helping to grow a thriving industry that delivers tangible benefits for farmers, ecosystems, and the public good. PBFI operates as the sister organization of the Plant Based Foods Association (PBFA), the first and only U.S. trade association that represents plant-based food companies and industry partners.
Board members have an opportunity to support an impact-oriented organization working at the intersections of sustainable foods, economic development, animal protection, and public health.
This is a volunteer position. Past board experience is not required. Key expectations of all board members include:
- Participate in a quarterly 2-hour board meeting, held virtually.
- Help craft and approve the organization's mission and vision, strategic plan, and budget.
- Support the review and approval of bylaws and governance documents.
- Provide input on key leadership decisions, including the approval of executive team and management hires or removals, as well as compensation.
- Review and approve significant changes to accounting practices, financial limits of authority, and other financial topics.
- Work collaboratively with PBFI staff on special projects of shared interest and expertise.
In addition, the Board treasurer is expected to:
- Participate in Executive Committee meetings on a quarterly basis.
- Work with PBFI staff to develop a brief quarterly financial report, to be presented at the quarterly board meeting.
- Interface with the PBFA Board Treasurer as part of inter-organizational financial governance.
