The Food Safety Compliance Specialist is responsible for the strategic oversight and operational execution of food safety and quality systems across Pulmuone’s international manufacturing, co-manufacturing, and supply chain networks. This role ensures compliance with food safety regulations in South Korea, the United States, Canada, and Europe, while driving continuous improvements in food safety culture, quality systems, and global regulatory compliance.
Job Responsibilities May Include But Are Not Limited To
Strategic Leadership
Develop and implement a global FSQA strategy aligned with company objectives and regulatory requirements.
Lead cross-functional teams and global quality councils to drive continuous improvement.
Foster a proactive food safety culture across all regions, including internal audits and training programs.
Food Safety Regulatory Compliance and Food Safety Program Development/Management Ensure compliance with GFSI-recognized schemes (SQF, FSSC, BRCGS) as well as other regulations not limited to:
Track and update global supplier audits, inspections, and certification programs.
Maintain regulatory intelligence across all regions (countries listed below) and update internal stakeholders accordingly.
South Korea: MFDS food safety regulations and HACCP standards.
United States: FDA FSMA HARPC, FSVP, USDA HACCP regulations, and GFSI-recognized schemes (SQF, FSSC, BRCGS).
Canada: CFIA Safe Food for Canadians Regulations (SFCR).
Europe: EFSA guidance, EU FIC (Regulation (EU) No 1169/2011), and GFSI schemes.
Manage/review/approve all supply chain HACCP/HARPC documents.
Act as a liaison among the Headquarters, the supply chain, and customers to mitigate any Food Safety Issues.
Manage/Maintain Foreign Supplier Verification Program.
Point of contact for all EU authorities for any Food Safety concerns.
Handle all customer-related documents for imports.
Support cross-functional Regulatory Affairs projects and initiatives as needed.
Quality System Development
Oversee supplier quality programs, specifications, finished and raw material traceability systems.
Implement and manage risk-based preventive controls and food fraud/defense systems.
Support incident and crisis management programs for product recalls or food safety breaches for imported products.
Training & Development
Develop training programs tailored to international teams on GMP, HACCP, FSMA, Allergen Control, etc.
Foster internal education on regional food laws and best practices.
Cross-Functional Collaboration
Work closely with R&D, Operations, Supply Chain, Regulatory, and Legal teams during/after product development and launch.
Provide FSQA expertise during international expansion or facility acquisition.
Skills/Qualifications
Education:
Bachelor's or Master’s degree in food science, Microbiology, Food Engineering, or related field.
Advanced certifications in food safety (e.g., HACCP, PCQI, GFSI, SQF Practitioner) strongly preferred.
Experience:
Minimum 7 years of FSQA experience as a PCQI in the food manufacturing industry, with at least 2 years in an import/export leadership role handling FSVP.
Proven experience navigating complex regulatory environments in USA, Canada, EU, and other countries.
Direct experience with GFSI certification schemes (e.g., BRCGS, SQF, FSSC, GFSI).
Skills:
Strong knowledge of global food regulations and third-party audit standards.
Exceptional leadership, communication, and stakeholder engagement abilities.
Proficiency in food safety risk assessments and preventive control programs.
Fluency in English required; Korean or other language skills (French, German, etc.) are a plus.
Required Certifications:
HACCP Certification (Codex-based).
PCQI (Preventive Controls Qualified Individual – FSMA).
Internal Auditor (ISO 22000 or GFSI scheme).
Preferred Certifications and Experience:
Minimum 10+ years of FSQA experience in the food manufacturing industry, with at least 5 years in a global or regional leadership role.
Internal Auditor (ISO 22000 or GFSI scheme).
