About the Role
The Category Planning Analyst sits within the Business Development team and plays a critical analytical and connective role supporting Category Management, Trade Planning, and Sales. This role is responsible for transforming complex data into clear, actionable insights that inform customer planning, internal performance reviews, and cross-functional decision-making.
Reporting directly to the Senior Category Manager, with a dotted-line partnership to the Manager of Trade Planning, this role operates at the intersection of category strategy, trade execution, and sales enablement. The Category Planning Analyst partners closely with Sales, Finance, Supply Chain, Marketing, and Innovation to support disciplined commercial planning and execution across the business.
This role provides strong exposure to category strategy and trade planning, with opportunities to expand scope and impact over time as the organization continues to mature.
What You’ll Be Doing
Utilize syndicated data, account-specific data, and internal reporting to identify trends, risks, and opportunities
Maintain and update weekly and monthly sales performance dashboards and trackers
Produce ad-hoc analyses to support time-sensitive business questions, customer discussions, and internal reviews
Update weekly & monthly tracking reports
Ad-Hoc business reporting necessary to answer time sensitive questions
Conduct projects involving sales, pricing, marketing, packaging, category management, trade marketing, forecasting, promotional activity, merchandising, & retail execution
Support all customer related shopper merchandising initiatives
Support cross-functional projects across category management, trade planning, forecasting, merchandising, pricing, and retail execution
Partner cross-functionally with Sales, Finance, Supply Chain, Marketing, and Innovation to align around shared commercial objectives
Support customer-specific retail activation and merchandising initiatives with data and reporting inputs
Drive regional account growth with sales utilizing category insights, performance analysis, and strategic recommendations
What You’ll Bring
Bachelor’s degree required
2–3 years of experience in Consumer-Packaged Goods, preferably in sales planning, category support, trade support, or finance
Working knowledge of promotional mechanics, trade methodology, and performance measurement
Experience supporting demand planning or forecasting processes
History with syndicated data sources (SPINS, Nielsen, IRI, or similar)
Advanced analytical skills with the ability to translate data into clear, concise insights
Strong organizational skills and attention to detail, with the ability to manage multiple priorities
Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel; working knowledge of PowerPoint and Word
Strong communication skills, with the ability to tailor insights to stakeholders with varying levels of data fluency
Collaborative mindset and comfort working in a fast-paced, cross-functional environment
3 days a week in person at our Oakland HQ office

The base comp range for this role may vary above or below the posted range as determined by location. This range has not been adjusted for any specific geographic differential applicable by area where the position may be filled.
