🚀 Internship overview
Reporting directly to our Head of R&D, Remy Kusters, you will join a small, fast-moving R&D team working at the frontier of animal cell culture and protein production technology. We are developing a proprietary protein production platform for high-value proteins. Your work will directly shape whether this platform reaches its first commercial milestones.
Internship duration: 6 months
Location: Paris
🎯 Key responsibilities
60% Experimental — Protein Production & Optimization
- Cell processing & preparation: Help develop and refine our proprietary cell processing workflow, from culture harvest through downstream preparation steps.
- Production system optimisation: Run and optimise our protein production platform by systematically varying buffer composition, substrate supplementation strategies, redox conditions, and reaction parameters to maximise yield.
- Template engineering: Work with DNA constructs and reporter systems to benchmark expression output across conditions.
- DoE mindset: Help design and execute multi-variable optimization experiments; analyze results quantitatively and feed findings back into the next experimental cycle.
40% Analysis & Documentation
- Data pipelines: Process and visualize plate-reader, luminescence, and analytical data — Python preferred.
- Quantitative thinking: Contribute to kinetic interpretation of expression time-courses; work alongside a mechanistic ODE model of the reaction system.
- Protocol ownership: Maintain versioned, reproducible protocols and contribute to internal technical reports for the team and our research partners.
- Collaboration: Interface with our external research partner (a high-throughput automation platform) to help prepare joint experimental designs.
🔎 Who we're looking for
- Academic Background: You are currently enrolled in a final year Master's program in Biochemistry, Molecular Biology, Bioengineering, Chemical Biology, or a closely related field.
- Wet-lab skills: You are comfortable working independently in a molecular biology lab, cell culture and quantitative assay development are second nature to you.
- Protein expression experience: You have hands-on experience with at least one recombinant protein expression system (bacterial, yeast, mammalian, or insect). Curiosity about how different systems compare is a strong plus.
- Quantitative mindset: Experience with DoE, statistical analysis, or basic kinetic modeling is a genuine differentiator.
- Data fluency: You are comfortable processing and plotting experimental data in Python. You document your analyses so others can reproduce them.
- Ownership: You take pride in clean protocols, well-kept lab notebooks, and following an experiment through to a real conclusion.
- Mission-Driven: You are excited about applying cutting-edge biology to build something that matters. You thrive in a small team where your contribution is visible.
- Language: You are fluent in English. We are a very international team, no need to speak French!
