This is HSBC’s enterprise leadership role for the transition of agriculture, land use and food value chains. You’ll help shape commercial strategy, deepen engagement with priority clients globally, and drive execution of HSBC’s Net Zero Transition Plan—helping deliver commercial growth, risk resilience, and measurable sustainability outcomes, while supporting delivery against HSBC’s public climate commitments.

In this role you will:
- Act as HSBC’s global authority on sustainable agriculture, land use and food systems, shaping strategic priorities, advising executive stakeholders, and influencing delivery of the bank’s commercial sustainability strategy and external market positioning.
- Drive the global client transition agenda for sustainable agriculture, land use and food systems, setting commercial priorities across sub-sectors and markets (within risk appetite) in partnership with bankers and regional leadership.
- Deepen client engagement and originate opportunities to accelerate decarbonisation across target sectors and markets, including emissions reductions from land-use change and food value chain transformation.
- Drive execution of the bank’s Net Zero Transition Plan for the sector, working with the Group Head of Climate Transition and Chief Sustainability Officer, and providing leadership to an international network of subject matter experts and regional colleagues.
- Lead HSBC’s external positioning on sustainable agriculture, land use and food systems, including senior engagement with governments, regulators and multilaterals to unlock bankable frameworks and investment pipelines, and building strategic partnerships with NGOs, investors, academia and industry groups.
To be successful in this role you should meet the following requirements:
- Proven leadership experience with a track record of strong delivery and outcomes.
- Expert-level knowledge of agriculture,agritech, food systems and land-use (e.g., commercial agriculture, forestry and land-use change, food processing and supply chains, water stress and soil health), including technologies/practices that mitigate emissions.
- Experience operating effectively in a large, complex, international and highly matrixed environment, influencing across multiple stakeholders and cultures.
- Familiarity with relevant standards and frameworks (e.g., SBTi, GFANZ, FSTF, NZBA) and the ability to translate them into practical client and commercial outcomes.
- Excellent communication and executive presence, with the ability to synthesise complex topics into clear messages and contribute credibly to C-level client discussions; comfortable leading through influence and ambiguity.
This role is based in London on a hybrid working basis.
