Join us as our next Process Engineer. Reporting to our site Head of Operation you will provide technical support and leadership at the South Hackensack facility, including formula and process improvements, scale-up of new products and processes, product transfers, material and product quality issues, obsolescence, and technical troubleshooting. Solid communication, collaboration, and technical skills are required to ensure execution of projects.
You will be based in South Hackensack, NJ.
You will be responsible for:
New Product or Process Industrialization:
- Review formulas and new processes for manufacturing, quality, and safety viability, and resolve issues with support from the creator and other partners.
- Lead and monitor scale-up and first-time production to ensure the product can be produced.
- Validate and support product transfers.
- Collaborate with the production, quality, and planning departments; FC&A (Flavor Creation & Application); and S+T.
- Propose and implement process and formula revisions to improve as applicable.
Technical Process Improvement and Engineering:
- Identify, define, justify, and implement process and formula improvements to improve site performance (quality, cost reduction, yield, safety).
- Provide site process engineering support. Identify, justify, and provide scope and process requirements for technical process improvement projects. Link to M&E / regional engineering.
- Maintain P&ID's, PFD's, operational parameters.
- Oversee start-up of new equipment/processes
- Perform detailed capacity analysis and apply the DMAIC approach to problem identification and resolution.
Technical Problem Solving
- Provide operations solutions for formula and process issues such as poor yield, chronic quality issues, excessive processing time, insufficient process controls, high product discard levels, and formula- or process-related safety issues.
- Suggest solutions for the rework of out-of-specification product that requires technical intervention.
- Handle problem resolution involving multiple processes and formulas.
Project leadership and support
- Lead site improvement projects such as product transfers, quality improvement projects, yield improvement projects, cost reduction, and capacity improvement projects.
Required Qualifications:
- B.S. (or higher) in chemical engineering or related technical field
- 1 – 3 years experience in process and project work in a manufacturing/production environment. Emphasis on liquids processing, spray drying, and granulation.
- Product formulation experience.
- Laboratory experience required. Liquid extraction with solvent, purification and drying experience.
- Laboratory analysis experience such as UV analysis, laser particle size analysis, and understanding of more advanced methods such as HPLC, GC, TLC, etc.
- Experience with continuous improvement and lean manufacturing.
- ERP experience.
- Experience working with diverse workforces,, including technical teams, manufacturing groups and leadership.
- Manufacturing/engineering technical background, including product industrialization, process engineering, complex machinery and material flow, installations and evaluation of equipment in a growth environment.
- Familiar with Lean fundamentals.
- Understanding of local, state and federal regulations and GMPs affecting the food industry.
- Knowledge of safety and QC functions and requirements.
- Expertise in food production and process development and ingredient functions in dry powder blending, multiple emulsions/homogenization and adsorption/plating of powders.
- Bilingual Spanish and English.
