POSITION OVERVIEW
Phytolon is a biotechnology company transforming the food industry through its natural colors, derived from fermentation. We develop sustainable, high-performance natural food colors that help build a more resilient food system by reducing land use and water consumption. We're setting a new standard for pure, consistent natural colors to accelerate the conversion from FD&C colors and crop-based colors. We're looking for talented people to be part of our success.
As our commercial activities continue to expand, we are seeking a highly motivated and customer-focused B2B salesperson to join our commercial team, reporting to the VP of Sales. The ideal candidate will be responsible for developing new business opportunities, driving sales, managing customer relationships, and promoting the Company's portfolio of natural food colors. This role is ideal for a consultative sales professional who enjoys partnering with customers, solving technical challenges, and helping bring innovative food solutions to market.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Business Development
Identify and develop new B2B customers in the food and beverage industry to drive revenue growth.
Build and maintain a healthy sales pipeline through proactive prospecting and business development activities.
Achieve or exceed assigned sales, revenue, margin, and new business development targets.
Prepare quotations, negotiate commercial terms, and follow up on business opportunities.
Customer Relationship Management
Develop long-term relationships with existing customers to maximize business growth and customer retention.
Understand customers’ product development, manufacturing processes, and commercial objectives to recommend effective natural color solutions.
Serve as primary commercial point of contact through the customer journey.
Arrange and conduct customer visits, product presentations, and technical discussions.
Sales & Cross-Functional Collaboration
Work closely with the food applications team to develop customer-specific solutions and support successful project execution.
Coordinate product sampling, technical evaluations, and commercial trials with customers and the applications team.
Collaborate with commercial, applications, and marketing teams to support customer success.
Commercial Operations & Market Development
Maintain accurate sales forecasts, CRM records, and customer activity reports.
Participate in trade shows, conferences, customer events, and industry exhibitions.
QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE
Bachelor’s degree in a related field.
7 – 10 years of B2B sales experience within the food industry.
Proven success in customer-facing sales or business development roles in the food and beverage (or related) industries.
Experience with natural food colors or specialty food ingredients is preferred.
Familiarity with clean-label, natural ingredients, and food innovation trends.
Ability to travel approximately 25–50% throughout North America for customer visits, industry events, and business development activities, with occasional international and weekend travel.
Valid driver's license.

COMPENSATION & TOTAL REWARDS
Base salary: $135,000–$150,000 annually, depending on experience and qualifications.
Performance-based annual incentive: target incentive of 25% of base salary, based on achievement of defined sales and performance targets.
