Asset Performance & Operational Intelligence Engineer
Location: Baltimore/Washington D.C. (JBoard location: Baltimore, Maryland).
The Asset Performance & Operational Intelligence Engineer transforms operational data from installed conveyor systems into insights that improve customer OEE, reduce unplanned downtime, and inform maintenance and upgrade strategies throughout the equipment lifecycle. This role serves as the analytical intelligence hub within Life Cycle Services, connecting system data, operating conditions, and field execution. It correlates system behavior to failure modes, identifies leading indicators of performance degradation, and drives data-backed corrective and preventive actions.
Responsibilities
Operational performance and OEE intelligence
• Own interpretation and breakdown of OEE metrics for installed conveyor systems.
• Analyze Availability, Performance, and Quality losses at system, subsystem, and zone levels.
• Identify and prioritize chronic versus acute performance-loss drivers.
• Validate that measured OEE reflects actual operational behavior and customer experience.
Failure-mode and trend analysis
• Correlate time-series signals such as motor current, temperature, vibration, conveyor speed and load, accumulation logic states, and fault, alarm, and recovery behavior.
• Identify leading indicators of failure and performance degradation.
• Develop repeatable pattern recognition for common failure modes across the installed base.
Maintenance and reliability enablement
• Translate data trends into actionable maintenance recommendations and support the move from time-based to condition-based maintenance.
• Provide data-driven input on inspection priorities, component replacement, and spare-parts strategy.
• Partner with field service and maintenance teams to validate interventions and outcomes.
Life Cycle Services optimization
• Identify at-risk systems before failures, prioritize service interventions by impact and risk, and quantify the value of recommended adjustments or upgrades.
• Enable proactive customer engagement through performance insights.
Data quality, engineering feedback, and communication
• Identify data-quality gaps, noisy signals, or incorrect configurations; work with product controls and integration engineering to improve source data.
• Provide structured feedback to engineering teams to improve future system designs and standards.
• Prepare clear insight summaries explaining what is happening, why, and what should happen next; present to LCS leadership, engineering teams, and customer-facing stakeholders; track outcomes and validate improvements.
Qualifications
• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related field.
• 5+ years in industrial systems analytics, manufacturing or material-handling performance analysis, or reliability/asset-performance engineering.
• Strong knowledge of conveyor systems, industrial automation, OEE, MTBF, downtime analysis, and failure modes.
• Strong SQL and time-series data skills; proficiency with Python, R, or an equivalent analytics tool; experience with Power BI, Tableau, Grafana, or similar visualization tools.
• Ability to interpret PLC-derived signals and system states (programming is not required).
• Strong systems thinking, problem decomposition, communication, and ability to translate analysis into operational recommendations. Comfortable working across engineering, maintenance, service, and customer-facing teams and engaging with field teams and real-world system behavior.
• Travel up to 50%.
Preferred: Material handling, logistics automation, or manufacturing systems experience; CMMS/EAM exposure; condition monitoring; interpreting PLC programming; supporting installed equipment at multiple customer sites; service or aftermarket business models.
This position is not eligible for work authorization or sponsorship.
Benefits may include health, dental, vision, disability, paid time off, 401(k), flexible spending, life and AD&D insurance, long-term care, tuition reimbursement, and other voluntary benefits. Salary range: $78,000–$194,600. Eligible for commissions, discretionary incentives, or production incentives according to plan terms.
