Automation Engineer – Development Acceleration Team
Intralox’s Development Acceleration Team accelerates the identification, evaluation, and maturation of new product opportunities. The team works like an internal startup, moving from idea to reality through prototyping, experimentation, and customer-driven learning. It measures success by how quickly and accurately it determines which opportunities deserve future investment.
The Automation Engineer develops the electrical, controls, software, and automation components needed to evaluate new concepts and serves as the technical integrator across mechanical systems, software, sensors, controls, and data collection. The role creates functional solutions quickly, tests assumptions, and builds enough capability to evaluate ideas without over-engineering. Prototypes are learning tools; their results inform robust downstream product requirements.
Key responsibilities
• Design and implement automation, controls, and software solutions for prototypes.
• Develop PLC, robotics, sensor, and motion-control applications.
• Create data-collection and performance-monitoring tools.
• Integrate hardware and software systems.
• Support prototype testing and troubleshooting.
• Evaluate emerging technologies for future applications and develop flexible platforms for experimentation.
Qualifications
• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Mechatronics, or a related field.
• 5+ years of industrial automation experience, PLC programming/control-system design, industrial networking and sensors, and integration of mechanical and software systems.
• Robotics, vision systems, Python, C#, and rapid-development experience preferred.
• Ability to lift 40 lb and climb ladders.
The role is based in Hanover, Maryland, in the office five days per week when not traveling. Travel is 10–30% as needed to investigate customer issues that may generate new product ideas or support prototype testing onsite. Customer investigations and prototype testing support the development mission; engineering design, integration, testing, and evaluation of new concepts dominate. This position is not eligible for work authorization or sponsorship.
Benefits may include health, dental, vision, disability insurance, paid time off, 401(k), flexible spending, life and AD&D insurance, long-term care, tuition reimbursement, and other voluntary benefits. Salary range: $75,300–$192,300. Incentives may include commissions, discretionary incentives, or production incentives according to plan terms.
